Graphics configuration in Ubuntu is really disappointing with Intel Chipset Boards. You have to do lots of post installation tasks to get proper resolution for your monitor working on Intel Chipsets. There are lots of various ways I found while searching around the web but haven't found any that would work for me. Well, I won't give up. Hope to get it solved soon.

Linux Filesystem!

The list and breif details of some main directories in Linux Filesystem.

/root superuser's home directory, not in /home/ to allow for booting the system even if /home is not available.

/home users' home directories.

/bin place for most commonly used terminal commands, like ls, mount, rm, etc.

/boot contains files needed to start up the system, including the Linux kernel, a RAM disk image and bootloader configuration files.

/dev contains all device files, which are not regular files but instead refer to various hardware devices on the system, including hard drives.

/etc contains system-global configuration files, which affect the system's behavior for all users.

/lib contains very important dynamic libraries and kernel modules

/media intended as a mount point for external devices, such as hard drives or removable media (floppies, CDs, DVDs, USB Drives).

/mnt dedicated specifically to "temporarily mounted" devices, such as network filesystems.

/opt used to store addition software that is not handled by the package manager.

/proc virtual filesystem that provides a mechanism for kernel to send information to processes.

/sbin contains important administrative commands that should generally only be employed by the superuser.

/srv can contain data directories of services such as HTTP (/srv/www/) or FTP.

/sys is a virtual filesystem that can be accessed to set or obtain information about the kernel's view of the system.

/tmp for temporary files used by applications.

/usr contains the majority of user utilities and applications, and partly replicates the root directory structure, containing for instance, among others, /usr/bin/ and /usr/lib.

/var is dedicated variable data that potentially changes rapidly; a notable directory it contains is /var/log where system log files are kept.

A Few Useful Commands for Ubuntu!

To Install Package/Program:
sudo apt-get install [program]

To Fix Synaptic Package Manager:
sudo update-apt-xapian-index

To Fix Firefox:
sudo killall -9 -r firefox
sudo apt-get purge firefox firefox-3.0 ubufox
sudo apt-get install --reinstall firefox firefox-3.0 firefox-3.0-gnome-support

To Clean Ubuntu System:
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo deborphan | xargs sudo apt-get -y remove --purge

Note: To install deborphan "sudo apt-get install deborphan"

If Update Manager Shows Missing Key Error:
gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv #########
gpg --export --armor ######### | sudo apt-key add -

Note: Here '#' means the missing key no. that Update Manager is showing!

To Enable/Disable Ubuntu default Firewall (UFW):
sudo ufw enable
sudo ufw disable

To Check Status of Firewall:
sudo ufw status

To Install extra codecs, fonts, java engines, etc:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

I started using Ubuntu only last weekend and found myself amazed by such a wonderful OS, and asked myself what I was doing so long. Now, I'm spending most of my times on Ubuntu and surprised to see such a huge community of it with helping hand always!

I know it's quite tough for new Ubuntu users to get on to it easily, but if you just google around the web you will get lots & lots of solved answers to each and every queries of yours available there!

Ubuntu is an African word meaning 'Humanity to others', or 'I am what I am because of who we all are'. The Ubuntu distribution brings the spirit of Ubuntu to the software world.

I would suggest you to give it at least a try once!
